Our Trailer

Everyone has varied travel styles and what suits one person or family to the next is very different.  Most would like something slightly or largely different to what they have too.  It is generally about compromise – to have one thing you may have to go without something else.  Choosing your design is not an easy task.  We were thankful for our time using camper trailers through our hire business for the previous five years or so and therefore having some ideas of what suited our family.

There were a few criteria which was the foundation to our design.  We wanted something that:

1.  Would sleep 6 off the ground with all children having a solid bed and not the stretchers that we had previously used.

2.  Totally off road – it has to be a unit that could go to Cape York and be able to go anywhere our vehicle can travel.

3.  Be self sufficient.  We want to be able to “wilderness” camp for at least a week or two and not have to use powered sites.

Dreams and designs began on paper in August 2010.  The first weld was September 2011, a rolling chassis in October 2011,  a secure “box” with some internal fit out in May 2012 and a completed unit in November 2012 with us living in it full time from December 2012.

Stephen designed every aspect of the trailer with our good friend and engineer, Bill Carver, who we are forever grateful for.

Thanks! It definitely was a long time in the dreaming and making but its been working great. Of course there’s a few adjustments we’d make now we’ve been using it but for our needs and travel requirements its been great!
