Harts Range Rodeo

untitled-0941I don’t think today has reached over 13 degrees Celsius, last night it dropped to minus 1 and I’m officially cold and shall I admit?… a little miserable!  The bitter wind hasn’t given up and it goes right through to your bones – BUT I have finally managed to put a roast on with numerous dramas of only having one gas bottle with gas in it, the refill places ALL closed due to some picnic/public holiday plus the lighter I use won’t light!!!  It goes without saying obviously Stephen isn’t here as he’d have it all calmly under control, but I think he’s the only mechanic in Alice that’s working this afternoon.  Using a stick and our little portable gas stove all is working, the camp oven is hot in the camp oven mate over our BBQ and I’m inside the trailer looking through the weekends photos…. and what a blast it was at the rodeo on Saturday!!!

I only noticed a couple of days ago that a rodeo was on over the weekend.  It has been on our bucket list to do… not just any rodeo, we wanted to go to a real OUTBACK rodeo.  Hart Ranges Rodeo definitely fits that bill.  The Harts Range is 210km from Alice Springs on the Plenty Highway heading east.  It really is a long way from anywhere, amongst some huge Northern Territory stations.  We packed our lunches, made a quick curry for dinner and headed out Saturday morning.  Along the way we’re wondering if we had the right day, right place as there were no signs and almost no other vehicle on the road.  210km later we arrived and YES we had the right day, right place!

What a ball we had.  Many laughs, cheers and fun – well worth the effort and drive.  I think I’ll let the photos tell the story…..

We missed some of the early events but were in time for the police horse race...

Hit the Track

We’re going to do the Plenty highway when we leave this area… Now I’ve had a glimpse of it I’m quite looking forward to it.

Love the pics, Christine. It looks like so much fun and you’re right, it certainly seems like a REALoutback rodeo. Yeheah! Xxxx
