Perth

27 04 2013

Heading towards Perth we phoned the council run caravan park we intended to stay at to find out prices.  We were told it was the cheapest place to stay that is relatively close to Perth.  Well there was a recorded message saying it had closed down last December!! Hmmm we need a plan B!

Another look on wiki camps (our favourite app to choose campsites by along with the Camps 6 book) at close (and cheap) places to stay we stumbled upon Camp Wattle Grove.  They are not your usual camp ground.  They are equipped to take large groups, school camps, youth groups, church groups etc and they also have some semi permanent residents plus space for the odd traveller such as ourselves.  We were initially told they were busy as a large group was coming in but after further chatting we were welcomed to stay a week.  YAY!!!  It was fantastic for our purposes – close to Perth, had a playground, a pool, other kids to play with and was very reasonably priced!  To top off our experience here we met some lovely people, we shared meals together, birthdays and have established friendships that we look forward to staying in touch with.

So what did we do in Perth?  Our week was jammed packed with purchasing some needed supplies and equipment, some touristy trips, a birthday, maintenance to trailer, meals with new friends and cooking up some meals for the freezer.  I even got a bridesmaid dress adjusted that I need for a wedding coming up on the 1st June.

We enjoyed Perth as getting around by car was easy (although we are relatively sure a letter will be coming in the mail from a speed camera … grrrr).  Their many freeways are all FREE (no tolls) and get you around quickly with little traffic in comparison to Sydney.  We found our first EVER gluten free fish and chips that had gluten free batter, potato scollops, fritters etc!  Wow – we were totally stoked with that one.  Fremantle was nice and we found a beautiful locally hand made fountain pen to purchase for Natasha’s upcoming birthday.  One day in Fremantle isn’t sufficient, but the one day we took there was good and busy enough for us moving through all the crowds.

I’ll have to check out Wikicamps! You found a good one! Yeah, how come we have to pay tolls when we pay so much fuel tax?
Nice bird pics! Keep them coming!
